Walking on ...

AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS
by Portia Nelson

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.

II

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place
but, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

III

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

IV

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

V

I walk down another street.

@Xenon - thanks. A friend sent it to me once when I was in between a rock and a hard place. I printed it and put it on my bathroom wall and read it every morning - crossing off every chapter when I had dealt with whatever, until I got to the last bit and took it off.

@Ms K - I thought you would like it. Kinda spurs me on and shows me how far I have come.

@Kymmbr - thank you. I'd actually lost it so I had to google it. Positive stuff.

@Xenon - I will keep visiting, so long as you keep writing. Thanks for reading my ramblings and thinking that I am WONDERFUL: taking that vybe with me all weekend :)

@Cilia - yep

@Nick: do you ask yourself why life is sometimes so hard? What is after? If there is nothing else, WTF do we have to go through the stuff we go through now? Is there some being getting a kick out of seeing us squirm through life?

Dont get me started! I s'pose you get my drift :)*thinking that I need to contact your Doc for whatever meds he's got you on*

@Kipepeo - I'm sure you'll figure it out. If we all knew about every aspect of what was happening/gonna happen in our lives, it wouldnt be spontaneous, suprising and fun.
@M - thanks
@Mshairi - no probs, will check it out.
@Nick - I agree about the kids, how fresh to be so innocent
@Xenon - I agree with you on living life to the fullest. But we do have reservations and sometimes you cant do what you want to do because you have responsibilities to other people and life is not just about us. But it is, right?
